JPMorgan Projects Stablecoin Market to Reach $500B by 2028, Below Bullish Estimates
JPMorgan strategists forecast the stablecoin market will grow to $500 billion by 2028, a figure significantly lower than more optimistic projections of $1 trillion to $2 trillion. The bank's analysis, led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, emphasizes crypto-native demand—not widespread payment adoption—as the primary driver of stablecoin usage.
Stablecoins, pegged to assets like the U.S. dollar, remain integral to crypto markets for trading, DeFi collateral, and firm liquidity. Just 6% of current demand stems from payments, suggesting limited upside from broader adoption. "Exponential expansion forecasts are far too optimistic," the report concludes.
